74HC595 Shift Register

The 74HC595 is an 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out (SIPO) shift register that expands the number of outputs available from a microcontroller. It uses serial data input to fill its internal shift register and then presents all 8 bits simultaneously on its parallel output pins by transferring them to a separate storage register. This allows you to control multiple outputs, like LEDs, using only a few microcontroller pins.
